JRE 2026 Dates: Still Unannounced — Plan Against the 2025/26 Actual Timeline

A search for “JRE 2026 application” can blur three separate events: recruitment for the jobs, application for the JRE and the written examination itself. The Civil Service Bureau has so far confirmed only that recruitment for six grades will begin in September 2026. JRE application and exam dates remain unannounced. Important correction: lacking CRE or BLNST results does not automatically prevent you from submitting a job application. The official FAQ says applicants without the required CRE results should sit an available examination and will be considered for appointment only after obtaining the results. Those without a BLNST pass must obtain one by the specified deadline. That appointment threshold should not be rewritten as an application threshold.

The six grades in the September 2026 round

No CRE result yet: Hong Kong has closed, overseas remains

Applications for the 2026 Hong Kong CRE closed on 7 August; the exam is tentatively set for 3 October. The overseas CRE is tentatively open for applications from 12 September to 2 October, with the exam on 5 December in Beijing, Shanghai, London, New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney. Check the official page again before making travel bookings.

BLNST can run in parallel

The Digitalised BLNST for degree/professional grades runs year-round. Applicants select a session within the next eight weeks, as early as the next working day, and receive the electronic result certificate on the day. It has not been held with the CRE since June 2025. For this six-grade exercise, candidates without a pass must obtain one on or before 5 December 2026 to be considered for appointment.

September recruitment does not mean a September JRE

“September” describes the launch of job recruitment, not the written exam. The two are usually more than two months apart.

Planning against the 2025/26 rhythm

The 2026/27 dates are not out, but last cycle's actual dates are verifiable — enough to work backwards from. The left column is what happened; the right is an estimate on the same rhythm, for planning only. The official announcement overrides everything here.

What this means in practice: from the recruitment announcement (September) to the written exam (late November) you get roughly ten weeks — and the Hong Kong CRE sitting on 3 October falls inside that window. Waiting for the announcement before you start preparing leaves very little room.
