A search for “JRE 2026 application” can blur three separate events: recruitment for the jobs, application for the JRE and the written examination itself. The Civil Service Bureau has now announced the 2026-27 round: applications closed at 11:59 p.m. (Hong Kong time) on Friday 2 October 2026, and the JRE is tentatively set for 5 December 2026. There is no separate JRE registration — you apply for the job, and eligible applicants are scheduled for the exam. This status board was last verified on 3 October 2026.

Important correction: lacking CRE or BLNST results does not automatically prevent you from submitting a job application. The official FAQ says applicants without the required CRE results should sit an available examination and will be considered for appointment only after obtaining the results. Those without a BLNST pass must obtain one by the specified deadline. That appointment threshold should not be rewritten as an application threshold.
Already applied: keep your confirmation and check exam notices
This recruitment round is closed. There is no separate JRE form: eligible job applicants will be scheduled for the exam. Keep your application confirmation or reference number and check your inbox and spam folders. An invitation does not confirm that all entry requirements have been met.

- Overseas applicants: follow the date, time and venue on your notice. Selection interviews for EO II and the other non-AO grades take place in Hong Kong.

CRE: Hong Kong exam held, overseas applications closed
The Hong Kong CRE was held on 3 October 2026. Electronic result certificates will be issued by 30 October; contact the Examinations Unit if no download e-mail arrives by then. Applications for the overseas CRE and paper-based BLNST closed at 11:59 p.m. Hong Kong time on 2 October. The exam remains tentatively scheduled for 5 December in Beijing, Shanghai, London, New York, Toronto, Vancouver and Sydney. Already registered candidates should check their notices. The next Hong Kong CRE application dates have not been announced.
Plan around your status: Hong Kong candidates can prepare for the JRE while awaiting results; registered overseas candidates can continue practising the CRE papers they need. A JRE invitation does not remove the required CRE results for appointment.
BLNST can run in parallel
The Digitalised BLNST for degree/professional grades runs year-round. Applicants select a session within the next eight weeks, as early as the next working day, and receive the electronic result certificate on the day. It has not been held with the CRE since June 2025. For this six-grade exercise, candidates without a pass must obtain one on or before 5 December 2026 to be considered for appointment.
September recruitment does not mean a September JRE

2026/27 vs 2025/26 timeline
This year's application deadline and exam date are now published. Compared with last cycle, the exam moves from late November to early December, giving about one extra week of preparation. EO II interviews are officially tentative for February to April/May 2027; consult separate notices for other grades.

What this means in practice: from the application deadline (2 October) to the written exam (5 December) you have about nine weeks, and the Hong Kong CRE falls on 3 October, the day after the deadline. Applications have closed; applicants can now focus on the JRE papers after the Hong Kong CRE.
What to do now
- Audit eligibility: degree, both CRE language papers, Aptitude Test and BLNST.
- Check your submitted application: retain the confirmation and look for your exam notice. Job and overseas CRE applications are closed. Obtain a BLNST pass by 5 December if needed, allowing for its three-month suspension after absence or failure.
